A morning with a local photographer (older children adore this), an afternoon in the hills above town, a quiet dinner in the medina.

Roman ruins under the wild flowers of Meknes. Lunch in the countryside. Arrival in Fes by early evening to a riad in the heart of the medina.

A half-day with a storyteller-guide, lunch in a Fassi home, the rest of the day free for the riad pool or a quiet hammam.

Through Ifrane, lunch among the cedars, onward to a lodge in the foothills with a fire lit by the time you arrive.

Into the dunes
The long, beautiful descent through the Ziz oases. Camel walk at sunset, dinner under canvas, the children always sleep deeply here.

Sahara sunrise · the Draa
Dawn from the highest dune. Late breakfast. A scenic drive through the date oases of the Draa to a kasbah near Skoura.

A walk between the red cliffs (the children always swim), lunch in a Berber home, an afternoon in the rose valley.

Over the Atlas to Marrakech
The Tizi n’Tichka pass at its most dramatic. Lunch on a terrace overlooking the valley. Arrival in Marrakech for a riad welcome.

To the Atlantic · Essaouira
A morning of last things in the souks, then west to the windswept blue port of Essaouira. Fresh fish on the harbour wall for lunch.

Essaouira, slow
A full day on the coast. Riding ponies on the beach for the smallest, a wind-surf lesson for the teenagers, gallery wandering for the grandparents.
